announced the decision to shut down the marketplace last year. And the company has now offered a statement to GameInformer, saying that the plan is to continue supporting Games for Windows Live in the future. Here it is, in full:

“We are continuing to support the Games for Windows Live service. As previously announced, as part of the retirement of Microsoft Points the Xbox.com PC marketplace was closed. Although customers are unable to purchase new games from the marketplace or receive title updates, they can continue to enjoy previously purchased content by downloading them through the Games for Windows Live client as usual. We remain committed to investing in PC gaming in the years ahead, and look forward to sharing more in the future.”
I wonder who spread these rumors of the service shutting down in full in the first place. This was the company’s attempt to bring a service like Xbox Live to PC, but glitches, bugs and lack of support meant that it absolutely failed to take off. Then again, unless Microsoft is planning something major for this service, it probably is best to let it go.]]>

  • I believe they are stalling here until they come out with something bigger and better in terms of gaming.
