here, the company could pick a new name for its mobile OS, something a little different than what has been reported until now. Something that ties into the whole mobile thing, and not just limited to just phones. Windows Phone is up for a merger with Windows RT, after all. And although nothing is confirmed so far, this report is referring to the references on a job posting that actually sheds some light on Microsoft’s future platforms that will power the desktop, tablet and smartphone devices. As the ad reads:

“With a portfolio including MSN, Microsoft Media Network, Windows Mobile, Xbox and Bing, our range of deeply targeted channels span the entire digital lifestyle. Are you passionate about working with partners to help them build and bring to market differentiating device experiences on Windows and Windows Mobile?”
Windows and Windows Mobile, they say? It could make sense at some level, but the name has a history, as you may well be aware. Windows Mobile was an operating system that Microsoft rather unceremoniously abandoned some years back, in favor of the Windows Phone brand. Remains to be seen if Redmond is bold enough to go back to it. What do you guys think?]]>

  • If they must change the name surely they can come with something better than that . They used it once before and changed it.

    • Agreed, but then again, Windows Mobile just has that ring to it. Covers both the smartphone and tablet domains, and well, too bad it just had to be split into Windows Phone and Windows RT.
