The security of Windows XP has been a major talking point in the industry, particularly with the expected end of support date that Microsoft has already announced for the old operating system.
And more importantly, moving users away from Windows XP is fast becoming a major priority for the software titan as we get close to the retirement date. The company is wasting no time to urge everyone, particularly businesses to make the move to either Windows 7 or Windows 8.
This time, Chris Hallum, a Microsoft senior product manager, talking to TechRadar, compared the overall security situation between the company’s most popular operating systems.
The executive reiterated that Windows 8 is the most secure Windows OS to date, while sharing some very interesting statistics.
According to him, Windows 7 is six times more likely to get infected than Windows 8. But as far as Windows XP is concerned, the corresponding figures are even more worrying. A computer running XP is 21 times more likely to be exploited by hackers and cybercriminals.
And this because of the vulnerabilities found in applications that run on that platform.
Hallum pointed to the numerous security enhancements that Microsoft has made in its latest OS, and further emphasized that moving to a newer operating system, in this case Windows 8, should be a priority for users and businesses.
