Earlier this month Redmond debuted a $100 price cut on its Surface Pro tablet, applicable on both the 64GB and 128GB versions of the deluxe tablet, bringing the prices down to $799 and $899 respectively.
This was another in the line of promotional discounts the technology titan has put up recently for its Surface slates. The price cut, although said to be temporary, was scheduled to end today.
But now the company has announced that the Surface Pro price cut is now a permanent one and will roll out in all markets where the Surface and Surface accessories are currently sold. In a statement, the technology titan said:
“The customer response to recent Surface pricing and keyboard-cover promotions has been exciting to see, and we are proud to begin rollout of Surface Pro, Touch Cover and Surface RT bundles at even more affordable prices starting 29 August. People who buy Surface love Surface, and we’re eager for more people to get their hands on this incredible device.”
These new discounts mean that all Surface Pro units (including the 256GB variant) are now $100 cheaper, and start at $799 USD with corresponding prices in other currencies.
Microsoft has also officially confirmed the rumored $40 price cut on Touch Covers. These will now start at $79, while Limited Edition Touch Covers can now be purchased starting at $89. Additionally, $50 is now off all Surface RT bundles, meaning they now begin at $399.
The only downer here — no price reduction for the Type Cover, which continues to retail at $129.99! But hey, can’t have everything, eh?
