Of all the names associated with Microsoft’s CEO seat, one name stands above all. Ford CEO Alan Mulally has been at the very top of near the very top of the shortlist ever since reports began surfacing.

And probably as many times as he has been talked about to take over from Steve Ballmer, has he downplayed the talk of a Microsoft switch.

Now once again, Ford board member Edsel Ford II, in an interview with Bloomberg TV said that Alan Mulally is unlikely to switch to Microsoft any time soon, as he wants to stay with the American car maker until next year at least:

“Alan is staying through the end of 2014 and that’s all I know. Frankly, he has told us that his plan is to stay with Ford through the end of 2014.”

End of 2014 seems to be the key phrase here.

One of the reasons why Alan Mulally, 68, is considered to be the frontrunner for the Microsoft hot seat is that outgoing CEO Steve Ballmer sees him as the perfect choice for the position, and wants him at the helm of the technology giant.
