says on the matter in an official blog post:

“Recently we had a father tweet us a presentation that his 12 year old daughter created describing why she should get an iPad mini. He challenged both Surface and Samsung to take turns in a rebuttal, we gladly accepted the challenge.”
How the story panned out, you can watch in this video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I60LzbLYtWg Needless to say, it is easy to see where this one went. The girl stepped into a Microsoft Store and then picked up a Surface tablet — after being convinced of the feature set and native support for applications like the Word and Excel. Who in their right mind can say no to Office, right? At the very least, it makes for a cute little ad.]]>

  • This ad seems similar to the bing it on challenge ad. I think it’s a great ad and showcases the surface as the superior product, especially when you throw office in there.

  • What are the odds this was staged in some capacity? I hate being a cynic, but it just seems like they paid the dad and daughter to post on twitter and choose it. That doesn’t mean I don’t think the surface is better, because I do, but I think the majority of people assume this stuff is staged.

    • Sadly, I agree. I think this could happen in real life, because the surface is great. However, these kinds of comparison ads always seemed planned.

  • Even if this was originally authentic, surely Microsoft would have offered her the Surface as a gift in return for the publicity? And then who could say “No thank you, I won’t take your free Surface, I’ll pay for iPad instead”?

  • Let’s see them run this ad once Office is everywhere, including the iPad.
