It goes without saying that Microsoft has really set its sight on conquering the smaller (and affordable) form factor tablets with its upcoming operating system.
Windows 8.1 (codename Windows Blue) comes with a whole bunch of improvements targeted for these smaller slates that sport displays between 7 and 8 inches — everything from lowered resolution requirements, to 50-50 Snap View and portrait modes all through the new OS.
This enhanced support for smaller tablets means that several features in Windows 8.1 are specifically tweaked to look good on these devices.
The Start Screen is one thing that is in line to get this treatment, and we have already seen it displayed in portrait mode. And now we have our first look at the integrated Windows Store in portrait mode.
As can be seen in this image, the design seems to be rather pleasant in this mode.
Sure, it could take quite a while to browse all available categories and read all the details about a specific app, but at least owners of smaller tablets can now enjoy the same features as everybody else, as they see fit.
Complete details on the portrait mode are not available right now, but expect more information on this in just a week or so, as the preview version of Windows Blue goes live on 26.
