The refresh of the Surface lineup of tablets is almost as anticipated as the upcoming refresh of the Windows operating system. And Surface 2.0 has been in the news these past few days as rumors continue to swirl.
A new report released today suggested that Microsoft has joined forces with Qualcomm and will use its Snapdragon 800 chipset to power the next generation Surface slates.
But that is not the only interesting bit of news on the Surface front.
Word is that Microsoft is also expected to bring out a 10.1 inch tablet that is to be equipped with an NVIDIA processor. According to The Inquirer, this tablet will feature either 32GB or 64GB of internal storage.
The aforementioned Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor will be installed on high-end units, while the NVIDIA solution will power the affordable ones. These low-cost tablets will provide an experience that is in line with what the current generation Surface RT slates already offer.
Windows 8.1 will play a key role for the next generation Surface tablets as the new OS comes with plenty of improvements specifically aimed at smaller (7 or 8 inch) units.
And the latest on the release date is that Microsoft will prepare a brief unveiling during the BUILD developer conference next week, right after the debut of the preview version of Windows 8.1.
