CCleaner is one of most popular computer maintenance programs available today, and the application has just received an important new update that along with many other improvements also brings support for Windows 8.1 Preview and Internet Explorer 11.

The public preview version of Microsoft’s first upgrade to Windows 8 was unleashed a few weeks ago.

CCleaner 4.0.4 now works with both Windows 8.1 Preview and Internet Explorer 11 — meaning users that have deployed Microsoft’s latest Windows release can now tune up and clean the operating system, as well as boost the overall performance of their machines.

It may even sound a little premature for Piriform to add support for the preview version of the operating system, but this is nevertheless a good way for the company to test the waters with Windows 8.1 Preview. The application, obviously, works with all other versions of Windows on the market.

Microsoft is said to be preparing for the launch of the full version of operating system in August, with Windows 8.1 expected to hit RTM status around the middle of next month.

Along with tools for system maintenance, CCleaner 4.0.4 also supports Internet Explorer 11 cleanup, including options to remove temporary Internet files, history, cookies, index.dat files, recently typed URLs, last download location, autocomplete history and saved passwords.

You can check out the full list of new features in the release notes on the official website, and also download the free or professional version of the application over there.
