If you, as a Windows Phone 8 user, are a bit irked with the slow pace the updates are rolled out, then rejoice. Things are finally starting to kick into high gear as far as the GDR2 update is concerned.
Smartphone vendors are reportedly in the final stage of testing this second update to the Windows Phone 8 platform. HTC is already said to have begun the rollout, and Nokia is on track to join the party with its very own update (codename Amber) in just a few weeks.
The Finnish telecom giant was earlier expected to plan the release of the Amber update (that itself is based on Windows Phone 8 GDR2) by the middle of August.
But now it seems that either a late August or early September rollout is on the cards.
This new information comes from ePrice, which claims that Nokia’s PR agency in Taiwan has confirmed this new timeframe of release.
Additionally, it is said that the Nokia Lumia 920 will be the first handset to receive the update, which is unsurprising as it is the most popular of the company’s current generation flagships. The company will push the update to the Lumia 820, 720, 620 and 520 soon after.
PhoneArena, however, speculates that this launch window may actually refer to the availability of this new firmware in only in Taiwan.
Nokia Amber is a highly anticipated software update for the company’s Windows Phone 8 smartphones. It is expected to bring a number of notable improvements and enhancements including the Nokia Pro Cam app, FM radio, and a Glance screen, among other features.
