The Finnish telecommunication giant finally unveiled the upcoming Nokia Lumia 925 smartphone, and the new smartphone is set to arrive on store shelves starting next month.

Nokia made the new device official at an event in London.

Briefly known as the Catwalk, the new flagship in the Lumia lineup is high on multimedia and photography features. The design itself is a departure from the earlier Windows Phone flagship smartphones — gone is the tough polycarbonate plastic in favor of an aluminum rim around the outside.

This according to Nokia not just gives the smartphone, what it calls a fabulous antenna, but also cuts the weight off the device. At just 8.5mm thick (or in this case, thin), the 925 weighs in at just 139g.

And this is a major improvement from the 185g of the Lumia 920 and 160g of the Lumia 820.

But form and factor aside, the specifications are quite similar to the Lumia 920 and Lumia 928 — two of the leading devices in this year’s Lumia smartphones lineup. Save for the imaging, that is.

The new smartphone arrives with an 8.7 megapixels PureView camera on the back to go with the 1.2 megapixels shooter on the front for making video calls. The main camera at the back is designed with dual LED flash next to it, along with Nokia’s Optical Image Stabilization.

A sixth lens is added to the five plastic lenses already available with Lumia 920 for improved photography. Nokia has also announced a Smart Camera application, which will arrive in the 925 as the default camera for Windows Phone.

This application is said to allow users to easily modify photos right after taking them, with features like action shot, best shot, blur, remove objects and more.

The other specifications largely stay the same and the new smartphone includes a 1.5 GHz dual-core processor, 1GB of memory, 16GB storage and 4.5-inch OLED display capable of pushing a resolution of 1280 by 768 pixels.

Lumia 925 is said to arrive on the store shelves in June in markets like the UK, Germany, Italy, Spain and China. While a US launch is scheduled along with other countries very soon. Estimated pricing in Europe is said to be €469 which translates to US $616.
