When it comes to Bluetooth 4.0 Low Energy (LE), the feature is not available on all Nokia Windows Phone 8 devices. Handsets like the Lumia 520, Lumia 620, Lumia 625 and the Lumia 720 currently have the feature enabled thanks to the Amber update.
But the remaining Lumia devices in Nokia’s Windows Phone 8 range are missing out.
All that is set to change with the Nokia Black update. We first heard about this upcoming firmware update yesterday, and now more details are slowly surfacing. Official details, at that.
Nokia has updated the FAQ section on its US website, confirming plans to expand the functionality to all Windows Phone 8 devices out there with the Nokia Black update, which itself is expected to start arrive on the handsets sometime in the first quarter of next year:
“Bluetooth LE allows you to connect your phone with special accessories like heart rate monitors. While doing that, thanks to Bluetooth LE connection, the accessory battery will last much longer, up to months.
It is already available for 520, 620, 625, and 720 with Amber. With Lumia Black software update, Bluetooth LE will be enabled across the full WP8 Lumia range.”
Thanks to the Bluetooth LE feature, all Lumia users will soon get the ability to connect an expanded range of accessories to their devices, including smartwatches.
Obviously, soon after the Nokia Black release, Windows Phone 8 users will be able to enjoy another major update, Windows Phone 8.1 on their devices, as suggested by recent reports on the matter. Exciting times ahead, exciting times.
