The latest Windows Phone 8 device from Nokia is gathering up all kinds of interest from users and fans of Microsoft’s mobile platform. The Lumia 1020 is the first Lumia smartphone that has a 41 megapixel camera built in at the back.
But the device is more than just a breathtaking camera — Nokia says it packs a bunch of additional capabilities that go a long way in making it one of the most desirable smartphones around.
In a post on its Nokia Conversations blog, the Finnish telecommunications titan talked about the build quality of its latest device, along with details of the materials used for it. The company also touched upon the colors users will be able to buy their smartphone in.
Speaking of which, the device will land on store shelves in three color variants — yellow, white and black. The company believes that this represents a reflection of the people that are interested in the Lumia 1020.
Jaana Beidler from Nokia Design talked about this, saying:
“We wanted to keep it as a focused selection of colours. It’s an approach that will appeal to camera enthusiasts who are, perhaps, used to a black, but open to a rich color like yellow.”
The company confirmed that all three colors come with a matter finish, though the company also tested a gloss finish. New enhancements ensure that the handset is as fingerprint and dirt resistant as possible:
“We looked at and tested both matt and gloss finishes. However, the matt looked and lent itself very well to the three colors.”
More importantly, the company notes that the Lumia 1020 was never meant to pack the metallic stripe, which was launched and very well received on the Lumia 925. Additionally, the color runs through the whole polycarbonate (instead of being applied after the production process) to prevent scratches:
“The overall feel is that the Lumia 1020 is comfortable and luxurious to hold in your hand. However, it’s also designed to be tough and resistant to everyday use and abuse.”
The Lumia 1020 comes with an aluminium camera detail, complete with a matte black finish. Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protects the touchscreen display, which itself is curved at the edges to fit with the industrial design of the smartphone. Aluminium keys on the side complete the body.
