In unsurprising news for the day, we have a confirmation that the Nokia Lumia 1020 is now out of stock, online that is. The same has happened with previous Nokia handsets launched by AT&T these past few years, and it has happened once again.
The folks over at WMPowerUser have the full lowdown on this, though the carrier did not unveil the number of smartphones that were preordered these past few days.
Nevertheless, AT&T has rather silently confirmed the news to some customers who have preordered the smartphone via email, saying that the handset will go on backorder:
“Thank you for your recent purchase on the AT&T Premier Online Store. We are pleased that you chose AT&T as your wireless service provider.
Unfortunately, items in your order are out of stock and are backordered. We will ship them as soon as they are available, and notify you of the shipment by email. We will ship multiple backordered items when all items are in stock.”
Meaning customers who have received this email can be sure that their handset will not be shipped on July 23, the company has confirmed on its official website.
However, consumers can still try their luck at their nearest AT&T brick and mortar store — they are expected to start selling the smartphone in the next couple of days. No telling how many units these stores will have in store, but judging by the response, it is reasonable to expect limited quantities.
