The rumor mill has been churning out bits and pieces of information about a new Nokia Lumia device this past week or so, and today the Finnish telecommunication giant made official a new smartphone in its Lumia lineup.
Although aimed at the entry-level market, the Nokia Lumia 625 packs a large 4.7 inch touchscreen display. Its affordable price, however, should ensure that the device is a hit with consumers around the world in the market for an attractive Windows Phone smartphone.
Undoubtedly, the most notable feature of the smartphone is the display that comes with a super-sensitive touchscreen that can deliver a WVGA resolution (800 by 480 pixels). A 1.2GHz Snapdragon S4 processor is paired with 512MB of RAM.
A post on the Nokia Conversations blog describes the Lumia 625:
“The big 4.7-inch screen on the Nokia Lumia 625 offers a larger view of everything that’s important to you. It’s viewable in direct sunlight and offers our super-sensitive touch technology for operation with gloves or nails.”
The tech specs of the device are rounded up by an 8GB of internal memory, which is backed up by a microSD card slot, along with a 5 megapixel camera on the back, and 4G LTE connectivity.
An impressive 2,000 mAh battery delivers up to 15.2 hours of talk time on 3G networks.
The new smartphone is set to arrive on store shelves before the end of the third quarter of the year with an asking price of $290 (before taxes and operator subsidies). Color options include orange, yellow, bright green, white and black.
As previously reported, both Microsoft and Nokia have increase their focus on creating affordable devices in order to increase the market share of the Windows Phone platform.
