report over at The Verge, Microsoft is now interested in releasing smartphones that pack impressive front facing cameras. And unlike all other Lumia devices, Nokia Superman comes packed with a 5 megapixel front camera for — you guessed it — great selfies. Sources hint at a 4.7-inch capacitive touchscreen, which probably means this is a midrange device. And while Microsoft is yet to officially confirm interest in this new trend, it is clear what this impressive front facing camera is for. Plus it shows that Redmond is ready and raring to take advantage of all such trends in the mobile world, in order to offer a complete range of devices. Word is that Nokia Superman will debut alongside the second update for Windows Phone 8.1, which by most accounts is set for release later this year. This summer, however, Microsoft and friends will unleash Windows Phone 8.1 proper, probably in June, though an official release date is expected to be announced in the coming weeks what with the developer preview of the mobile OS already out.]]>

  • I just wish they had a mid-range no contract phone

  • I like the codename for once. A nice name to start off the partnership. However, I don’t know how “in” selfies still are or will be a year for now. In my view, focusing on something as minor as “selfies” is a recipe for disaster. You need to make the most well-rounded phone.

    • Front camera is more useful than just selfie so even if selfie is not popular anymore, a good front camera is always good to have.

  • At least they’re trying to keep up the times. I don’t get selfies, but they’ve been undeniably popular. They’re putting a lot of eggs in this basket though, so they better hope selfies stay popular.

  • They’re calling it superman. Whether it’s a joke or not, this gives fans and consumers that this is going to be an awesome phone. I can only hope the device lives up to the name. The selfie focus could be cool, but we’ll have to see.

  • Hmm. I am thinking the next phone for trending purposes could be the Carlos Danger phone for “other” selfies.
