Shaping up quite a marquee year for Office applications, this. Microsoft have just released the final, feature complete version of Office for Android tablets. Just in the nick of time too.
The apps have been available in beta flavor since early January, and actually saw a fair amount of activity from users. According to the software titan, these applications have been downloaded more than 250,000 times, in 33 different languages, by users in 110 countries.
Perhaps the only reason why this beta phase lasted this long is the sheer variety of Android devices that are available, in a range of hardware configurations with models of various sizes.
Think over 3,000 devices in more than 500 models, each with differing hardware specifications.
Regardless, all that is behind us now, as Redmond has unleashed the final version of these applications, marking this first major release as feature complete and stable. The apps are now available for download from Google Play.
To install the Office suite on your Android tablet, you need a device that runs version 4.4 KitKat or later, has an ARM processor with at least 1GB of RAM.
Another consideration to keep in mind is that it only works on tablets screen sized 7 inches and up. Plus, devices larger than 10.1 inches will demand an active Office 365 subscription for these applications to work, it only free to use on devices under this display size.
