One thing that Microsoft has long struggled with is having multiple software and platforms that are designed for the same thing. And this is most true with the company’s email clients.
There used to be a time when the company had Outlook, Outlook Express, and Hotmail. This then morphed into Outlook and OWA (Outlook Web Application), Outlook.com, Mail for Windows, as well as Outlook for Mac.
Seriously?
Now, there is talk that the company is ready to bring these disparate systems closer together, in the form of an all-in-one client that will be known simply as Outlook. Details about this first came out back in January, with the venture itself is known under the codename Project Monarch.

Latest on the matter is that this all-in-one Outlook is coming to a public preview in as soon as 1-2 months.
The app will be built on web technologies, and the new solution would be ready to replace the Window Mail and Calendar app sometime in 2022.
Apparently, replacing the full desktop Outlook app could take a while, what with corporate users and entrenched installations that are dependent on macros and third-party addons. Still, a cohesive approach to Mail clients is longer overdue, and even if it comes out next year, it would truly be worth it.
