With great powers comes great responsibility. And it is hard to deny the power and popularity of Microsoft’s web-based email platform, Outlook.com.

Some users across the globe seem to be experiencing issues when trying to access Outlook.com.

Microsoft has acknowledged the problem and is said to be looking into the problem. A notification posted on Microsoft community forums states:

“Outlook.com: Access Issue. We are aware that Outlook.com customers are experiencing issues while accessing their mailboxes. They may receive an error message ‘We can’t connect to Outlook right now. Please try again later.”

The error occurred early in the morning when users tried to access the service and got a simple message that said “We can’t connect to Outlook at the moment”. No other specifics or details were provided alongside the error message.

Reading the comment on the community forum, it appears that this error is experienced on most browsers out there, including Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox and Google Chrome, though in a small number of countries across the world.

While Redmond is currently looking into the issue it has suggested users to clean their browser cache in the meantime — as this sometimes blocks them from accessing their inbox. That, according to users, does not actually fix the issue at all, but still worth a try.

Needless to say, with Windows 8.1 fast approaching, and bringing with it a myriad of affordable Windows powered tablets, the Outlook.com service will attain even more importance. Microsoft surely can ill afford regular downtimes like these.

What about you guys? Did you have trouble accessing your Outlook.com inbox today? If you did, then let others know in the comments below.

  • It still crashes less than Gmail, and god-forsake… Yahoo!-Mail. This is why I have the E-Mail and Yahoo!-apps on my start-screen.

  • I didn’t have any trouble with Outlook.com, but I did have it in the past, but this was often quickly resolved.
