blog post, along with new additions — and there are a lot of welcome new additions, truth be told. One of the more notable of these improvements is the fact that Internet Explorer 11 now works seamlessly on desktops, laptops, small and large tablets, and smartphones. The underlying engine remains the same across devices. The refreshed version of IE11 for Windows 8.1, for instance, detects the size of the device, no matter how small or large, and adapts to fit the display. Enterprise Mode is also included for websites and applications that were designed to run on IE8. Internet Explorer 11 for Windows Phone 8.1, on the other hand, gets the ability to pin websites to the Start Screen as Live Tiles, Reading Mode is also included, as are voice commands to navigate to sites. The new High Savings Mode reduced images quality in order to help cut data by 60 to 80 percent. Microsoft has also launched a new browser benchmark website, FishGL that shows off some neat graphic effects that Internet Explorer 11 seamlessly renders. Another website, 22tracks provides users with a touch based music playlist with an audio visualizer.]]>

  • This is better than other versions, but is there any word on whether or not Firefox or Chrome will be available on the Phone version? I remember the reports that they’re not available yet, but hopefully we have some options soon.

  • I’m with you here, Elaine. IE11 is a vast improvement over previous versions. I still think it has work to do to become the best browser, but it’s at least usable now, which I’m not sure it was a few years back.

  • IE11 is great in my opinion! I think it’s pretty much even with Firefox at this point. But that’s just me.

  • No doubt this has gotten better. I really want IE to be my favorite browser, but it’s just not yet. That’s not to say other browsers out there are perfect, I just don’t think IE is the best quite yet. 🙂

  • I see that laptop and can’t see how people think macbooks look more visually appealing. To each their own, but this is near perfect in my view.

  • I think the one thing we can all agree on is that it’s better than Safari now. It still requires some fixes to reach firefox, but it’s ahead of safari for sure.
