Only a few days remain until the 2013 edition of the Mobile World Congress trade show at Barcelona gets underway, and unsurprisingly, rumors have also gained pace as we approach the event.

One such rumor is that Nokia is ready to unveil a new lower priced Lumia smartphone powered by Microsoft’s Windows Phone 8 mobile operating system during the show.

A Lumia 520, you say? Could be incoming, if this Reuters report is to be believed.

Apparently, Nokia is all set to announce several new budget mobile phones for developing countries, and while details about these devices are still under wraps, an affordable Lumia smartphone could be part of the announcement.

These new handsets will compete with devices made by Chinese companies like Huawei and ZTE.

Word of a Lumia 520 is not altogether new, by the way. A few weeks back both the 520 and 720 were spotted in a list in Indonesia, and both Lumia smartphones were said to be heading towards a MWC unveil.

It is safe to assume both could make an appearance next week as cheaper alternatives to more expensive Lumia smartphones that are currently available.

This is in addition to the buzz that Nokia is ready to reveal plans for a 41 megapixel PureView camera Windows Phone 8 smartphone at MWC, with the device (codename EOS) slated for release in the United States this summer.

Either way, interesting times ahead for Microsoft’s Windows Phone 8 platform.
