While Nokia has long been rumored to be working on a Windows powered tablet, reports are now gathering pace that the Finnish telecom giant is very close to official unveiling its slate.
A new report claims to have more information on the hardware specifications of the tablet.
The device is said to hit the store shelves powered by Windows 8.1 straight out of the box. Nokia is reportedly packing the upcoming slate with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor that is to be clocked at 2.15GHz, backed up by 32GB of internal memory.
The tablet is rumored to feature a large 10.1-inch touchscreen display capable of pushing a 1080p resolution with wide viewing angles and a 5 point multi-touch.
A detachable keyboard (that doubles up as a stand) has been designed so that it easily connects to the tablet, quite similar to the Touch and Type Covers that Microsoft launched with its Surface slates.
The keyboard will also house a battery, which should provide it with some extra juice.
Additionally, Nokia is said to pack the tablet with wireless N Cell compatibility, as well as support for microHDMI and USB 3.0 ports on the back.
The Windows RT tablet is projected to be officially unveiled in September, and launch in the United States on AT&T. Compal is said to be manufacturing the device.
Nokia has historically crafted some of the best looking phones, and its Lumia series of smartphones sports some absolutely fantastic designs. And if the company can bring something like this to its tablets, along with custom software, it could be a winning combination outright.
While this is still a rumor (albeit a very detailed one), it seems that Nokia is really close to jumping into the tablet game. No better time than now, that’s for sure.
Based on the rumored specs above, what price point would you guys like to see this tablet debut at? For my money it should target $300 mark (or under) for now to maximize sales, and then increase the price for the second generation as needed.
