While Nokia has long been rumored to be working on a Windows powered tablet, reports are now gathering pace that the Finnish telecom giant is very close to official unveiling its slate.
A new report claims to have more information on the hardware specifications of the tablet.
The device is said to hit the store shelves powered by Windows 8.1 straight out of the box. Nokia is reportedly packing the upcoming slate with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor that is to be clocked at 2.15GHz, backed up by 32GB of internal memory.
The tablet is rumored to feature a large 10.1-inch touchscreen display capable of pushing a 1080p resolution with wide viewing angles and a 5 point multi-touch.
A detachable keyboard (that doubles up as a stand) has been designed so that it easily connects to the tablet, quite similar to the Touch and Type Covers that Microsoft launched with its Surface slates.
The keyboard will also house a battery, which should provide it with some extra juice.
Additionally, Nokia is said to pack the tablet with wireless N Cell compatibility, as well as support for microHDMI and USB 3.0 ports on the back.
The Windows RT tablet is projected to be officially unveiled in September, and launch in the United States on AT&T. Compal is said to be manufacturing the device.
Nokia has historically crafted some of the best looking phones, and its Lumia series of smartphones sports some absolutely fantastic designs. And if the company can bring something like this to its tablets, along with custom software, it could be a winning combination outright.
While this is still a rumor (albeit a very detailed one), it seems that Nokia is really close to jumping into the tablet game. No better time than now, that’s for sure.
Based on the rumored specs above, what price point would you guys like to see this tablet debut at? For my money it should target $300 mark (or under) for now to maximize sales, and then increase the price for the second generation as needed.

I just might have to get that. Honestly I don’t think I would pick up my iPad if I had it other than for apps I can’t get on Windows or where the data or progress wouldn’t transfer. I guess I could also wait to see if they make a full Windows 8 tablet, but having a laptop, I really don’t see the need right now.
Aye. A lot will depend on what Nokia brings to the table for Lumia owners. It already has a pretty strong smartphone user base, and if it can tie things up on the tablet front, it could write a story worth reading.
None of the other Windows tablet makers had this luxury. Well, maybe Samsung, but we all know where its heart lies. HTC and Huawei have nothing on this either.
I don’t have a Lumia, but I was thinking about getting one. I’ve really be reluctant to dive into 100% touch screen, but since no good physical keyboard phones are coming out soon, the Lumia would be a good option for me. I’m almost an AT&T customer. They need to negotiate some type of deal with them that involves service, a Lumia phone, and Nokia tablet.
I’ve been a Windows phone user for years and after my last Samsung Windows phone died, I went with the Lumia 920 and I’m 99.9% pleased with it (for me, that’s pretty good!) I’m a IT Trainer and I’m pleased with the full touch screen. Yes, keyboard takes a bit of time to get use to, but the feature of giving me options for the next word it thinks I may want is BRILLIANT. Or talking my texts or emails, is fantastic. Having my text messages read to me (and I respond) while I am in the car is wonderful. Believe me, once you go ‘touch’, you’ll never want to go back.
I have a Nokia Windows phone and love it. Will consider the tablet. Would like to see a regular Win 8, not RT. A little more storage too would be nice.
“Powered by Windows 8.1 straight out of the box.” Nice! The specs seem great, too. If priced right, this could be a game-changer in the long haul.
