With the release of newer processing solutions, there is an increasing collection of Windows 8 tablets that are hitting the store shelves around the world. With Windows 8.1 still a few months away, hardware vendors are currently focusing on Windows 8.

And Samsung was one of the leading companies that announced a number of new Windows 8 products this summer. June saw the announcements of a couple of slates under the company’s ATIV brand.

One of which was the 10.1 inch ATIV Tab 3 tablet, which has just gone on sale today on Amazon at the price of $599.

The listing confirms the previously announced specs — a 1366 by 768 resolution screen, powered by an Intel Atom Z2760 Clover Trial processor and 2GB of RAM. Storage options include 64GB of internal capacity backed up by a microSD card slot for additional storage.

No estimates have been provided on battery life, but Samsung projects this slate to last up to 8.5 hours, thanks to the reasonably high battery and reasonably economic Intel Atom platform.

The device has a total weight of 1.28 pounds.

Speaking of pounds, the Surface Pro is a better device pound for pound when it comes to the 10.1 inch form factor. But the Samsung ATIV Tab 3 is aggressively priced, and will probably be available in more markets where the Surface Pro is not, thanks to Samsung’s large retail network.

Battery life is also one area where it has got the Pro beat, though obviously it is no match for the Core i5 CPU in the Surface Pro.
