Only thing better than an odyssey is Odyssey+. And you can now get your hands on it. It was a little over a year ago when Samsung dived into the Windows Mixed Reality waters with its first headset.
It was a solid effort, with the AMOLED displays being the highlight.
And now, the company has updated its headset for 2018, packing minor improvements in the new creation. It also took the opportunity to discount the original device by a solid amount — Samsung Odyssey can now be yours for $349.
Good choice for those that always want the latest and greatest.
But if you do, then this new model is neat.
It still makes use of the 1440 x 1600 resolution per eye in its dual 3.5-inch AMOLED displays, but Odyssey+ comes with the exclusive Samsung technology dubbed Anti-Screen Door Effect (Anti-SDE) Display that reduces the number of fine lines between pixels.
Basically, it helps prevent the screen door effect that many VR headsets still suffer from.
There is also a wider eye box that measures in at 146mm. This provides a better shape that fits more comfortably on your face. Improved box aside, the Odyssey+ also features breathable face padding that keeps the lenses clear and free of haze.
And finally, excellent comfort is a given with the 590 grams weight, which makes long sessions a bit more bearable.
The Samsung HMD Odyssey+ is available here, while Microsoft is selling the original model on Microsoft Store here at the discounted price.
Which is a good thing, as the original Odyssey was the priciest Windows Mixed Reality headset back when it launched. A $150 off the asking price will help bring it to the reach of more users that want to experience what this new virtual reality platform is all about.
