A classic case of chicken and egg! Microsoft Surface Phone, also known as Surface Andromeda, was expected to launch later this year, and was the reason for much anticipation among fans.
But according to a recent report, the project has been pushed back to 2019.
Worse yet, Redmond is even ready to take into account the complete demise of the device and could very well cancel this dual screen machine.
In other words, it may well have the same fate as the Surface Mini and Courier, which are two of the more high-profile cancellations from the technology titan. Basically, Microsoft is not afraid to outright ditch products before launching them, if it feels they are not up to the mark.
And the reason why Surface Andromeda may not be up to the mark has been revealed by Tom Warren, who revealed that it’s not the hardware itself that is causing issues.
It’s the software.
As it always is.
The current state of the Andromeda app ecosystem is not where Microsoft wants it to be, as the company feels that software is important for this device to appeal to buyers.
So, there you have it. The software side of the equation is to blame for this innovative device not making it to market this year. Or maybe even ever, if the technology giant feels that this is not a project worth actively pursuing.
On the flipside, there is a chance that Andromeda like devices see daylight later this year, as a few seem to be in development, all powered by Windows 10 proper.
Nevertheless, the situation is exciting as distressing in equal dozes right now.
