Bummer! It was supposed to be low-key, but now it is no-key. All thanks to the severe weather. Yes, I am talking about the modest Surface Pro launch event Microsoft had planned in New York City.

Microsoft has decided not to hold the launch event for its anticipated new tablet, set to go on sale February 9. The reason is the incoming snowstorm that is said to bring up to a foot of snow in the city. Panos Panay, the leader of the Surface team first let the news out in a tweet:

“Given the blizzard warning for NYC area I’m super bummed I won’t be able to be there to see the first Surface Pros sold in Union Square.”

The folks over at Neowin then contacted Microsoft to inquire about the event itself, and got a reply:

“Surface Pro launch activities in NYC have been cancelled due to weather; our best wishes for everyone impacted by the blizzard.”

So then, there you have it.

A good decision by Microsoft, no point in battling and risking the weather!

Though to be honest, it was supposed to be a low-key, invite-only event as we earlier covered. According to news reports, the company had planned to hold an event at the Best Buy retail store in the Union Square section of Manhattan, as it had shut down its temporary store in Times Square.

Party or no party, the tablet will go on sale online on Microsoft Store website on Saturday morning. You will also be able to buy it on the company’s brick and mortar retail outlets in the United States and Canada the same day, along with Best Buy in both countries, and Staples stores in the US.
