Seeds of doubt. Moves like these are what creates doubts in the minds of customers. Customers, which in this case, were looking forward to the Surface Pro LTE tablet that Microsoft had announced.

Unveiled earlier this month, the last word on the device was that it was tracking for a December arrival.

The Redmond based technology giant took the wraps off the new Surface Pro series, and in the process, gave up on the numbering generations for the product name. This cellular version of the device was confirmed for launch in the fourth quarter of the year.

But according to new information posted on the Microsoft Store page, it looks like the plan has quietly changed in the meantime.

This is what the software titan explains in the FAQ section of the Surface Pro product page:

“When will LTE be available? The new Surface Pro with LTE will be made avaiable [sic] for purchase at retail Spring 2018. We’re excited to bring you a Surface Pro that is now faster, lighter, quieter, and more connected than ever.”

Bummer.

LTE was supposed to be offered on the Core i5 version of Surface Pro. And this type of connectivity would have brought with it a number of advantages for users that wanted Internet on the go, in places where WiFi was not available.

Unfortunate delay, but as long as the company releases the device early next year.
