Microsoft may have added a million and one features in the newer versions of Windows, but there is still room for some slight improvements here and there. This hold particularly true for power users.
And if you are one such power user and spend a substantial amount of time in Explorer then a bit of tabbed management will do you a world of good. This freeware tool that goes by the name of Clover should be next on your download list.
This lightweight utility offers you more control over your locally stored items on your computer by allowing you to browser multiple folders at the same time in File Explorer.
Essentially an extension for File Explorer, this gives the built in file manager a bit of a makeover — a Chrome-inspired makeover at that, complete with the wrench icon and all. Here is how the developer describes the software:
“Clover is an extension of the Windows Explorer, to add multi-tab functionality similar to Google Chrome browser. After install Clover, you will be able to open multiple folders within the same window, and you can also add folder bookmarks.”
You should be up and running in no time after installing this handy piece of tool. It offers a straightforward interface and even the keyboard shortcuts are of the standard variety. Ctrl + T to open a new tab, Ctrl + W to close the current one, and so on.
Clover supports most versions of Windows, from Windows XP to Windows 7 and Windows 8.1. Functionality basically remains unchanged no matter what flavor of the operating system you are using.

One thing that should be noted: with Clover adding tabs on titlebar, you need to change the quick access toolbar to bottom of the ribbon.

Cool feature. I’m sure it might be in future versions. I wonder if tabs would ever be added to Metro Apps
Internet Explorer and Reader has tabs.
The modern apps works on very restrictive mode (and won’t even work if you disable UAC), so I don’t think you can tab the apps in one big ‘window’ beside the app switcher.
