Smartphones were flying off the shelves in December – typically the strongest month for sales – especially for gifts.  The month featured discounts from all the major smartphone makers and carriers.

The question therefore, is how all the major smartphones did over the holiday sales period at each carrier – the iPhone 5, the Samsung Galaxy S3 and of course, the Nokia Lumia 920 and HTC 8X.

Courtesy of the analysts at Canaccord Genuity (through B/OSS), here are the top selling smartphones at each major carrier in December, beginning with T-Mobile.

T-Mobile #3 – HTC 8X

The HTC 8X had a November debut and runs on Windows Phone 8. Besides competing with other platforms, it also competes with the Nokia Lumia line.  Microsoft’s avalanche of marketing helped the HTC 8X reach #3 in sales at T-Mobile.

T-Mobile #2 – Samsung Galaxy Note II

The Galaxy Note II with its massive 5.5 inch screen was an expensive $370 and runs on Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean). It came in second at T-Mobile.

T-Mobile #1 – Samsung Galaxy S3

The Galaxy S3 has perched atop the bestseller list at T-Mobile for six straight months and T-Mobile has seen no need to cut its price from $280.
