The crowdfunding campaign, that is to say. Trekstor has once again proven that crowdfunding is not the way to go when it comes to launching a Windows Phone.
The Germany company has admitted that the device isn’t coming.
It was more or less a month ago that the it kickstarted a crowdfunding drive to make its Windows 10 Mobile powered handset a reality. Back then it was hyped up as a smartphone that would Microsoft’s mobile OS alive and kicking.
Even as Redmond itself has put Windows 10 Mobile in maintenance mode.
Anyway, the company was seeking €500,000 to mass produce this handset, and unsurprisingly, it failed miserably with only 11% of the goal actually reached. Which is to say, users donated €52,928 in backing the project.
This is what the company posted following the update three days ago:
“First of all, thank you to everyone for contributing to this campaign. We are sad that it didn’t make the cut, but that’s life. As for those who contributed, we are currently working with Indiegogo to issue your refunds as fast as possible, but we would ask you to allow us some time to do it.”
Why this did not pick up steam is clear as daylight.
Perhaps the biggest reason, this side of the collapse of the Windows Phone platform, is that the device was packing midrange specifications. It was supposed to come with a 5-inch IPS display covered by Gorilla Glass 3, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 617 chip, with 3GB of RAM, and a 13MP primary camera.
In other words, another budget Windows phone, in a sea of budget Windows phones.
