Looks like Redmond is at it again! The company, famed as much for renaming and rebranding, as it is for software and services has new codenames for Windows 10.
Earlier this year we learned that the software titan was ditching its Redstone codenames for the operating system. Instead, a new codename that reflected the year and half the version would be released was chosen.
And even though we are smack in the middle of development of 19H1, which means that it will be available in the first half of 2019, this naming scheme will not even last the year.
As reported by Mary Jo Foley, the codename for the next feature update is Vanadium. Following that will be Vibranium — the fictional metal in the Marvel comics universe that is used by Black Panther and Captain America in their suit and shield respectively.
At least, it gives us an excuse to use this cool image above!
But this is the fourth naming scheme that we have had for Windows 10 codenames.
Originally, it was called Threshold, but Microsoft departed from that and started calling these releases Redstone. Now the company seems to have settled on using elements for Windows codenames, quite similar to how Azure currently does.
Windows 10 19H1 is coming in the first half of the year.
Vanadium will follow next in the fall of 2019, while Vibranium is expected to see daylight in spring 2020.
