The next version of the OS, Windows 10 20H2, has moved a step closer to release. The update has made an appearance in the Release Preview ring for some Insiders.

Though these are very early days still.

Of course, the rollout of the Windows 10 May 2020 Update has started to pick up pace. But Microsoft wants to keep on track with the next feature update for the OS, and seems to have begun the testing phase of this upcoming release.

It is reported to have showed up for some users enrolled in the Release Preview ring, and officially goes by the name of Windows 10, version 20H2, as you an see from the image below.

Windows 10 20H2 Insider Testing

Hard to tell whether this is simply an experiment, or whether Microsoft has actually started the rollout of this version in the Release Preview ring. But the timing isn’t surprising, considering the fact that Redmond would want to use these next few weeks for additional testing.

Not that there is much to test.

Like the 19H2 release last year, this one is simply an enablement package, with nothing much in terms of new features. In other words, this is pretty much a service pack that focuses more on under the hood improvements than new options.

We’ll have to wait for an official confirmation from Microsoft on the status of testing.

But we are not far off.
