Well, for Insiders, anyway. The Windows 10 Timeline feature was one of the new additions to the OS that Microsoft showed off earlier this year, before making the difficult choice of delaying it.
It was initially expected to be ready in time for the Fall Creators Update.
Nevertheless, the company a few more months to get it right, and it is clear that they have now. It looks that we are very close to receiving Windows Timeline, with the company confirming it at the Windows Developer Day that it is ready to roll out an early version of this feature for testing.
Insiders enrolled in the Fast ring of the Windows Insider Program are about to get with the next build, if all goes according to plan.
Likewise, this new development means that this feature is now expected to be made available to all users of the operating system with the release of Windows 10 Redstone 4 sometimes in spring of next year.
All depending on the how development comes along, the feedback that Microsoft gets, and how testing and bug fixing advances, of course.
And just in case you are not familiar with Timeline, this is a feature in Windows 10 where users can create snapshots of their app activity at a certain moment, and then go back in time to restore the device to that saved state.
This is made possible by the power of the cloud, obviously, and is designed to work across all devices that have the same Microsoft account configured.
The idea being to make it simple to switch from one PC to another with a smooth transition that brings up the files and documents that a user had open before changing devices. Timeline, along with the newly announced Sets feature is something that is sure to amp up productivity for users.
Redstone 4 can now basically be called the Windows 10 Productivity Update, eh?
