Another version of Windows 10 is reaching the end of servicing today. That version in question is Windows 10 version 20H2, for which Microsoft posted a reminder back in February.

May 10, 2022 is the date for this release that also went by as the October 2020 Update.

It became generally available in September of that same year and brought with it a slew of new features, including changes to the Start Menu and Taskbar, an enhanced tablet experience, and improved notifications.

But it is perhaps most notable for being the first version of Windows 10 to ship with the Chromium based Edge.

Oh, and in case you are wondering what end of servicing actually means, it entails a PC running this version of the OS no longer being eligible to receive any security updates. Customers who contact Microsoft for support regarding it will also be instructed to upgrade to a supported version.

The SKUs that are affected by this latest change include:

  • Windows 10 Home, version 20H2
  • Windows 10 Pro, version 20H2
  • Windows 10 Pro Education, version 20H2
  • Windows 10 Pro for Workstations, version 20H2

If you are running any of the four operating system versions mentioned above that are about to reach the end of servicing, make sure to head over to Windows Update to manually trigger the update. That is if your device is still stuck on version 20H2.

This is because, back in January, Microsoft mentioned that it was planning to force-upgrade eligible 20H2 PCs in the first half of 2021 to train its machine learning model.

It is worth mentioning that Windows 10 version 20H2 for Enterprise, Education, and IoT Enterprise is still supported and will continue to be until May 9, 2023.
