An OOBE to be proud of for Microsoft. The company has redesigned the initial setup experience in the upcoming Windows 10X operating system, and it is what Windows users have been dreaming of.

For ages.

The new platform will come with a new out-of-the-box experience (OOBE) that is not only simpler and faster, but also does away with a lot of the fluff. And the biggest change, perhaps, is the removal of digital assistant Cortana.

All this has been revealed in this report, which details how Microsoft has polished the initial setup in Windows 10X.

One of the biggest annoyances in setting up a new device was Cortana. The voice assistant was there to assist users in configuring their operating system, providing voice guidance for each step. But this is exactly what slowed people down.

But word on the street is that not only is the OOBE in Windows 10X is sans Cortana, the overall UI of the setup process has also been updated to be modern.

It makes sense for Microsoft, having a white window on top of a blurred background that aligns with the company’s Fluent Design language. It is, after all, a new generation operating system.

And since Windows 10X is designed to be used on dual-screen and foldable devices, the OOBE also expands to cover two displays if they are available. Meaning, even though just one display can be used as well, the experience will cover the entire screen.

All this is an evolution from the traditional Windows 10 experience.
