The time is now! With Windows 11 right around the corner, Microsoft has formally launched the marketing campaign for its new operating system. And things start with this blockbuster ad.

60 seconds in length, the clip features the same production values and quality we are accustomed to from the Surface commercials. Microsoft clearly wants the ad to show how Windows 11 brings you closer to what you love, and it does.

As Microsoft explains:

“Set to the music of the new single “All Starts Now” by Odessa featuring Tim Myers, the ad follows its hero as she explores the visually stunning new Windows, walking past apps in the new Microsoft Store, playing games with Xbox’s Master Chief, realizing Windows 11 widgets emerging from a beautiful cloud and chatting with a friend who though on the other side of the world seems close enough to touch, all representing the seamless experiences that Windows 11 makes possible.”

The ad starts with a young woman interacting with a Windows 11 PC, before she is pulled into a colorful corridor filled with Microsoft apps and games. Action then transitions to a desert where Halo legend Master Chief steps off a Warthog to shoot a Covenant Banshee with a rocket launcher.

Rest of the video is a fast-paced succession of sequences that shows the new Teams for Consumer app that ships with the OS.

The woman is also shown using the new Snap Assist controls to watch a video towards the end.

Clearly, this ad is designed to mark the launch of an international ad campaign to raise awareness and excitement around Windows 11. The features of the upcoming operating system don’t exactly get a lot of screen time, but this is something that is likely coming down the road.

What are your thoughts on the ad?

  • Really looking forwards to Win 11’s release. I’ve been a Windows fan since v3.1 back in the late 80’s. The only time I used the other ‘unmentionable’ one was when we borrowed a laptop from work. Hated it; plus all the hardware to run that OS cost double what you paid for a Windows computer (and still does) despite the hardware basically being the same.

The advantage w.r.t. security is no longer an issue, so Windows will remain with me for the rest of my life (hopefully).
