numbers from Net Applications show that Windows 8.1 now has some 4.30 percent of the market to its name — which is good enough for a fourth place standing. Windows 7 continues to be the number one operating system out there with 47.31 percent, followed by the perennial favorite Windows XP at 29.53 percent, and then comes Windows 8 and its worldwide figures of 6.38 percent. Launched in October 2013, Windows 8.1 has overtaken Mac OS X 10.9 and Windows Vista with their numbers of 4.30 and 3.48 percent respectively. Now while these are not some mind-bending numbers for Windows 8.1, they do show that the newest version has grown enough in the past few months to further consolidate its position. Windows 8.1 had a brisk 3.60 percent of the market to its name when 2013 ended, but it slowed down a bit when it only reached the 3.94 percent mark in January 2014. Microsoft is currently preparing an important update for release this spring that it hopes boosts consumer appeal for desktop users that are still on the fence when it comes to the new platform. Update 1 for Windows 8.1 is expected to bring a number of changes for traditional desktop and mouse users, like the ability to pin Metro apps to the taskbar. The power options along with a search button will also be placed right on the Start Screen to help facilitate better usage of desktop computers.]]>
