Microsoft unleashed an elaborate marketing blitz for Windows 8 with all kinds of ad campaigns and launch parties around the world. And now with Windows 8.1 out in the wild, something very similar is under consideration.
The software titan seems to be ready and raring to do all it can to make Windows 8.1 successful.
And according to this report, Redmond has approved a $405 million marketing budget for the new operating system — this makes for a notable increase from the $241 million that was reserved for Windows 8 last year.
Around $131 million of this hefty amount will be reserved for incentives and offers. Direct marketing and operating expenses will take up the remaining $274 million.
These new efforts make total sense for the technology giant. Microsoft seems to have learnt from its recent mistakes, and the company now wants to fix these issues not just with its products but also how they are promoted.
Newer ads that came out from the House of Windows emphasize the key features of the latest products down to a tee. This ensures that everyone is aware of what these products do, but also how they work.
With the holiday shopping season fast approaching, this budget approval comes at the perfect time.
If all goes well, expect to see new promotions, commercials and ads from Microsoft promoting Windows 8.1 and the second generation Surface tablets in the coming weeks. Exciting times ahead!

I still question any marketing campaign that doesn’t involve celebrity endorsers/users or other advertisements that try to push the coolness of the devices.
Yeah, Lenovo successfully pulled this off with Ashton Kutcher and its Yoga tablets. Microsoft should look into it, and look into it deep.
Yeah, someone like Steve Wozniak would be so cool. LOL!
You got to get a couple of well known celebs who people can identify with. Someone in entertainment and sports.
