believes that an August launch is very much on the cards, and Microsoft will quietly roll out Windows 8.1 Update 2 as part of the August Patch Tuesday release — which is another way to say that there probably will not be any special press conferences or the usual fanfare. The reason for this is simple enough. Windows 8.1 Update 2, so far, looks like it will only bring along performance improvements and some extra patches. No new features are expected to be added in this upcoming build of the OS. The funny thing is that many expected this second update to the platform to bring back the Start Menu, but according to new information, the return of the feature has been delayed to early 2015. • 1. This update sounds like it’ll be pretty standard. 2. I’m a little surprised with how early this is being released. Seems like it’s ahead of schedule.

  • August 12th is probably their goal, but I wouldn’t be shocked if it’s pushed back a couple of weeks. Nevertheless, getting the update during August at some point is fine by me.

  • I haven’t seen the preview for win9 yet. Why do they all say win9 will come out early 2015? Do they mean the win9 preview will come out then?
