How to Access It

  • Invoke Settings Charm either through the Charms Bar or key combo “Win + I”.
  • Select “Change PC Settings” option located at the bottom of the Settings Charm pane. This will launch PC Settings.
  • Select “General” tab from the left pane of PC Settings.

OS-level Settings

Set your time zone in this section. That will automatically adjust your current date and time. Windows 8 allows switching of metro apps using “Win+Tab” shortcut or by activating the top-left hot corner. The Switch List includes the most recently accessed apps. One may want to turn the list off because the hot corner becomes an annoyance at times while using mouse. That can be done in this section. The active apps can still be switched using the traditional “Alt+Tab”. Windows 8 provides facilities of spelling correction – highlight and autocorrect, throughout the metro apps. That can be customized here. This section also contains access to language settings. If you want to switch OS language to your local language or want to change keyboard input style, click on the link and it will lead you to the settings.

Machine-level Settings

Windows 8 provides you two ways to repair a slow and bloated PC.
  • A mild-mannered refresh, in which you won’t lose any personal data. The OS itself will simply remove itself of all clutter and bloat by resetting itself.
  • A full-on PC format, in which everything on your machine is nuked, and your OS is basically re-installed.
