Fans of Microsoft probably know this already. The software titan places what is called a Betta fish in the test versions of its operating systems. It has been a symbol of beta versions of Windows since the early days of Windows 7.
This design is usually displayed as a desktop background or the boot screen.
With the preview version of Windows 8.1 set for arrival tomorrow, and the preview version of Windows Server Blue (Windows Server 2012 R2, actually) already available for a test drive, the company has created a brand new design for the Betta fish.
Not only is it a brand new design, it is more colorful than previous iterations.
The new design is posted by Rafael Rivera on Twitter, and it appears that Microsoft might use the Siamese fighting fish on the boot screen this time in Windows 8.1 Preview.
We are yet to discover the official desktop background of this version, however, so things can change by the time the final version hits general availability.
Nevertheless, the new drawing carries the same clean design philosophy that Windows 8 and other modern operating systems from Redmond have made their own.
Windows 8.1 Preview is almost here now, so expect to see this Betta fish as your system boots up, if you go ahead and install the public test version of the anticipated operating system.
