source (at least when it comes to Windows Phone news) has claimed that Microsoft is planning a general public release around June and August, though owners of an App Studio account will be able to upgrade to Windows Phone 8.1 as early as April. It appears that the sheer complexity and size of this upgrade may have influenced the company in deciding on this release date. Windows Phone 8.1 is as feature rich as they come, after all. Obviously, major carriers are also known to take their time testing and release these updates, meaning there is every chance that some users may only be able to get their hands on Windows Phone 8.1 in September or October. In any case, file this report as a rumor for now, until we hear something concrete from Microsoft regarding the release date of Windows Phone 8.1.]]>

  • OMG that’s most of the year. This is something that really needs to happen. Now, there is no way I see them releasing Windows 9 as early as some are saying with it being almost the whole year before some people get their hands on WP8.1

    • Yeah, that’s quite late for the Black update. But at least you finally got treated to it. I can see Windows Phone 8.1 launching in the second half of the year, the testing phase will dictate things here.

      • I had the developer preview, but it seem like the official black update took forever to come

        • Ah, okay. Things aren’t that different on Android handsets, it must be said. But Microsoft really needs to set (and stick to) a stricter timeline for updates.

          • That is true. They need to keep to a stricter timeline. They also need to get updates out faster than everyone else. Whatever little thing they can say the do better than someone else they should hop on it.
