Zero. While we have known for some time that Windows Phone is headed for extinction, it is only now that we are approaching the moment when the sales of the mobile OS come to a standstill.

The latest data provided by Kantar indicates that the end of the platform is very close.

Sales have decreased dramatically during the three-month period ending October 2017, so much so that the numbers have dropped to 0% in several markets. Save China, where the mobile operating system recorded a surprising increase.

Here’s the table, by the way:

Kantar Mobile December 2017

As you can see, the EU5 region that is made up of the five biggest European markets — France, Germany, Italy, Spain, and the UK — saw sales go down from 3.2% to 1.1%, recording a decline of no less than 2.1% versus the same period a year ago.

This terrible performance continued outside the European Union as well.

In the United States, for example, the platform got down to 0.5%, down from 0.7%. A much bigger drop was recorded in Australia, where the mobile OS dipped 2.6%, while in Japan, things went down to as low as 0.1%.

Basically, the only country where Windows Phone actually improved its 2016 share is China, where it is said that mobile OS accounted for 0.3% of all smartphones sold during this timeframe. This accounted for an increase of 0.2% compared to the previous year.

As for the future, things have never been clearer.

Lack of updates and hardware support from Microsoft has meant that Windows 10 Mobile is about to go extinct in all countries. The company already confirmed that the mobile OS has no place in its vision for the future, and it does not plan on being an active player in this highly competitive field.

The end is near.
