Seems like Microsoft’s advertising efforts are finally starting to bring in the desired results. Latest statistics reveal that more and more users are reportedly making the switch to Windows 8.
Even better, Windows XP saw a large decline in one week, which ultimately shows that a lot of people (and businesses) not just made the upgrade, they are finally saying goodbye to the 11-year-old operating system, which Microsoft has said it will stop supporting by April next year.
The latest figures from Net Applications for the week of January 13, 2013 show that while Windows 7 remains the market leader, Windows 8 is continually attracting more users — it now commands a market share of 2.25 percent up from 2.06 percent the week before.
Windows XP has started to lose ground rather quickly. In seven days, it took a tumble from 39.08 percent to 38.71 percent.
Now, Windows 8 on touchscreen displays is still another story, with a market share of only 0.07 percent (no, I will not say anything funny here). Sure the real joy is in seeing this figure improve, but still it shows that more and more touch capable computers are being sold in the market.
And with the arrival of Surface with Windows 8 Pro, this number can only go up.
While more and more users are migrating to Windows 8 with each passing day, Windows RT is still hovering over at the 0.01 percent mark. There is still a lot of room for improvement here, as Microsoft further improves the availability of its Surface RT slate, and more tablets make their way to the market.
